The health crisis caused by the coronavirus has forced the organizers of the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie to definitively cancel one of its continental qualifiers, the Copa Maya 2020, aimed at Latin American pastry chefs.

The competition, which has already been postponed from May to September due to the pandemic, is finally not going to take place in view of the evolution of sanitary measures and the difficulties of travelling around the world.

Given this decision, the Coupe’s own international organizing committee, chaired by Pierre Hermé, has chosen the three countries that will represent Latin America in the grand final in 2021 in Lyon, based on the ranking of the 2018 Maya Cup: Chile, Argentina, and Mexico, who have to confirm their participation before September 1.

The organization has yet to comment on the future of the Asian Pastry Cup, scheduled for July, and the African Pastry Cup, scheduled for June 20.
