Alberto RuizEverything is ready. The biggest patisserie show in the world is approaching. There will be 19 countries competing in the 2011 edition, 19 teams that will fight to reach the highest spot on the podium and achieve glory. Lyon will once again be the world capital of patisserie for two days. The Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie reaches its twelfth edition since it was created by Gabriel Paillasson in 1989, and it does so with more strength than ever seen before.
In fact, the worldwide impact of this event has not ceased growing in recent years. It has reached a point where there are no pastry professionals in the world that have not at least heard of this competition.
On Sunday, January 23rd, in the first of two sessions, the teams representing Italy, China, the USA, Malaysia, Brazil, Singapore, Uruguay, Mexico, and Tunisia will compete. It will be Taiwan, Colombia, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Russia, the UK, Argentina, Belgium, and Morocco’s turn to compete the following day.
They must all, live and before 19 judges (one per country) and bleachers full of their followers, create a chocolate cake, a fruit ice cream cake, a plated dessert, an artistic sugar piece, another made of chocolate, and a third made of ice. And we are expecting to see new techniques, new aesthetic tendencies, and all the excitement of a unique competition. Let the show begin!
