From June 11 to 13, New Orleans will host the Americas selections of the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie for the first time in the United States. This qualifier will determine which three teams will compete in the final in January 2025 in Sirha Lyon.

The countries that will compete are:

Paraguay: Chiara Pederzani / Johanna Borgognon

This country will participate for the first time in this competition with a 100% female team: Chiara Pederzani (chocolate candidate), production director in a group specialized in bakery, pastry, and deli products, and Johanna Borgognon (sugar candidate), co-owner of the Twins Bakery pastry shop with her twin sister.

Chile: Rodrigo Rojas / Nadia Castillo

After being host and winner of the 2022 Americas selection, the Chilean team will be represented by Rodrigo Rojas (chocolate candidate), owner of the Atelier Guró and former Pastry World Cup candidate in 2019, along with Nadia Castillo (sugar candidate), owner of her pastry business Dulcívoro and teacher in a catering school.

Canada: Olivier Potier / Christophe Sportellini

After fifteen years of absence, Canada made its great return to the competition in the 2022 Americas team. Two French expatriates who have lived in Quebec for many years make up the team: Olivier Potier (chocolate candidate), owner of his own pastry and gourmet grocery shop Chez Potier, in the Old Montreal district, and Christophe Sportellini (sugar candidate), at the head of his confectionery shop Nani Nono in Val-des-Monts.

Argentina: Matias Dragún / Lucas Carballo

The country once again trusts the same candidates who placed ninth in the 2023 World Cup. Both are professors at the Professional Pastry School of the Confectioners’ Union of Buenos Aires: Matias Dragún (chocolate candidate) and Lucas Carballo (sugar candidate).

Colombia: Carlos de Ávila / Deiby Sanchez

Colombia faces this competition with Carlos de Ávila (chocolate candidate), owner of the Vida Mia Pastelería patisserie in Bogotá and 13th place in the 2023 World Cup, and Deiby Sanchez (sugar candidate), one of the most recognized pastry chefs in the country and founder of Academia Careme.

Mexico: Erick Martinez / Miguel Angel Pérez

Representing Mexico will be Erick Martinez (chocolate candidate), a committed pastry chef with more than 20 years of experience in pastry and baking, mainly in the hotel industry, and Miguel Angel Pérez (sugar candidate), head of pastry at the Hyatt hotel – Secrets Maroma Beach Cancun Riviera. Both use top quality raw materials and local products to make their innovative desserts.
