Ana RodríguezThe Club Coupe du Monde USA has decided to cancel the participation of the American team in the upcoming Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie 2021, to be held in January 2021 at Sirha in Lyon.
Gilles Renusson, president of the Club, affirms that “The U.S. and Japan are the only two nations which have participated in every Coupe du Monde since its first edition in 1989. We hate to break this tradition, and hope to return to Lyon as soon as it is safe for all of us to train and travel ”.
The reason for this renouncement, Renusson explains, is that the team that had to compete in 2021 was unable to meet or train due to the coronavirus pandemic. The team that was selected at Grand Rapids Community College and consisted of Julie Eslinger, Mary Lewis, Jordan Snider, Francois Behuet, and coached by Chef Andy Chlebana. “As many of our colleagues,” he says, “are not able to return to work, neither are some of the team members. The time is neither to jeopardize any team member’s health, the health of their families or colleagues, nor the security of their employment ”.
