Ana RodríguezEach spring, Relais Desserts celebrates a meeting with all its associates, each year in a different place. This time the destination has been Verviers (Belgium) and the ambassador has been Jean-Philippe Darcis (so good #5).
On the agenda of the event was the famous “Goûter des Chefs” (Chefs’ afternoon snacks), open to the public. More than 800 guests could enjoy a large number of desserts, chocolates and other croquembouches prepared by members of the Association that were grouped by region following the theme: Vatel’s buffets. Princess Léa inaugurated the prestigious afternoon snacks, held at the famous Spa Casino.
One of the purposes of the meetings is to share techniques. Hence, visits to the labs of pastry chefs in the country were organized: that of Darcis himself and also those of Marc Ducobu (so good #10) in Waterloo and Bernard Proot of Rey House in Antwerp. As far as the historical house on the Place du Sablon in Brussels, the Wittamer House signed the masterpiece of this “Goûter des Chefs”, worthy of Marie-Antoinette.
And to top it off, a closing gala full of fantasy and excitement at La Tourelle Chauteau with a dinner orchestrated by some of the great names of Belgian cuisine, especially by the three-star chefs Philippe Fauchet, Christophe Pauly, and Clément Petitjean.
