In 1980, Suzette Gresham was the first female chef’s apprentice to accompany the U.S. Culinary Olympics Team to Frankfurt, Germany. Four years later, she returned as an individual competitor and won a bronze medal.
Since 1989, she has been the executive chef and partner of Acquerello in San Francisco, a fine-dining Italian restaurant that has received numerous awards, including two Michelin stars. Thanks to her interest in sharing her knowledge and experience in a way that fosters the growth of her culinary team, Gresham has helped inform the next generation of chefs and create opportunities for them beyond the four walls of the restaurant.
“I promised myself when I was younger that if I got to be a chef, and I didn’t think I could, that I would never rule by fear, intimidation or ridicule”
